My Physical Environment

Designing the space where I can function optimally.

Why does my environment matter so much?

In short: My environment shapes my capacity. I cannot think clearly in hostile sensory territory. This is the sanctuary protocol.

The Core Insight

Light, sound, temperature, clutter, and boundaries are not minor comforts. They are the scaffolding of focus. This module turns your physical space into a tool that works for you, not against you.

The Practices

Each practice is a focused investigation. Click through to read the full protocol.

1

Light Audit

What lighting conditions allow sustained focus? Single‑source amber or warm light. No overhead “big light.” Dimmable.

2

Sound Protocol

What auditory environment is optimal? Instrumental loops, ambient sound, or silence. Noise‑canceling available.

3

Temperature and Air

What conditions keep the body from distracting the mind? Cooler than typical comfort. Moving air. Consistent.

4

Visual Clutter

What enters my peripheral vision? Does it pull attention? Clear surfaces. Closed tabs. Single monitor when possible.

5

Boundaries

How do I signal “do not disturb” to others? Physical sign, digital status, scheduled unavailability communicated in advance.

6

Emergency Reset

What do I do when my environment is unexpectedly disrupted? Backup location. Sensory reset kit accessible.

Default Environment

Fluorescent overhead, unpredictable noise, stuffy air, visual clutter, no boundaries, push through until crash.

Designed Environment

Warm dimmable light, predictable sound or silence, fresh air, clear surfaces, visible boundary signals, emergency reset ready.
